The Patrol, with no rear axle...

Here is the FJ-40 rear axle. I bought it for $50 from Dave Rising of the Green Country Cruisers

The rear output on the T-Case is on the Passenger side. The FJ-40 Rear axle is offset to the passenger side, just like the stock one.

Both, the PUP brake hose on the ground and the Patrol brake hose hanging down from the frame uses SAE fittings. The Patrol hose is rotted and cracked, while the PUP hose is still in great shape. I will most likely use the PUP hose and a drop-down bracket if needed.

I was planning on using the PUP springs, but they turned out to be too short and would have caused some serious problems. So, I went salvage-yarding! I found a set of K-10 springs out there with just the right length. They were a little bit too narrow, but that will be easily fixed with some washers...

There are quite a few leafs in the springs, so I may only use 3 or 4.

You can really see how offset the T-Case is in this pic.

As you can see in the above picture, the bolt pattern on the two flanges do not exactly match up, even after the top flange's bolt holes have been bored out from 3/8" to 1/2". I suppose I can have a machine shop wallow it out a little bit...

I might also want to grind off that little lip on the underside of the driveshaft flange. It may effect how they bolt-up... hehe... theres my foot...

The mounting bolts were so rusted up in the bushings that we had to cut the mounts clean off the truck. Well, not that clean...

I will be buying custom bushings from Posies Rod and Customs out of Maryland, but since Im impatient, I just had the stock ones drilled out. Chevrolet uses 9/16" mounting bolts on their 73-87 C/K-Series trucks, whereas Nissan used 5/8" mounting bolts on their 60-Series Patrols.

Here are my custom-made 6" shackles. These things were made out of 1/2" plate steel! Some heavy-duty muthas! My friend, who made them, had only a 9/16" drill bit, instead of the 5/8" bit needed. I had another friend's uncle do it.

Looks like I might be replacing wheel seals as well as diff cover and 3rd member cover gaskets...

The brake line setup for the rear.

The K-10 springs had perfectly centered centering pins. The stock Patrol springs had centering pins 2-3" more forward. To make up for this difference, I had to drill new centering pin holes in spring perches 2" rearward from the originals. Also, the spring perches had to be cut off and moved outward 2". 1" each.
WARNING: Your measurement may be different. Remember, Im using custom shackles and Chevy K-10 springs, rather than stock springs and shackles.

Here the axle is, installed. The wheel cylinders had to be rebuilt.

Trail tested! Not a problem arose!

WARNING! This is not a guide on how to do an axle swap. I am just sharing pictures and information with other people who are considering doing a swap. I WILL NOT be responsible for what happens to your truck if you do this swap.
